Obituary for Carl J. Bickel

Carl J. Bickel, 80, of Windsor Twp., died Monday, March 20, 2017 in Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center. He was the husband of Julia S. (Strause) Bickel. They were married March 13, 1965 and celebrated 52 years of marriage.
Born in Centre Twp., he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Jennie L. (Kline) Bickel. Growing up, he worked on his parents farm, and continued as a farmer as an adult. Carl was a member of Union Fire Co. No. 1 of Hamburg, Shoemakersville, Shartlesville, Bethel, and Kutztown Fire Companies, and McClosky Run Lodge, Inc., Hyner, Clinton County since 1964. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, and hunting. He loved his grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son: Jeffrey C. Bickel, husband of Trisha L. (Geist), Windsor Twp.; a daugther: Susan E. (Bickel) Fick, wife of Michael J. Fick, Cody, Wyoming; three grandchildren: Bradley, Blake, and Lacey. He is also survived by a two sisters: Ruth "Pat" (Bickel) Kremser, wife of Thurman Kremser, Upper Bern Twp., and Jane B. (Bickel) Markovich, Windsor Twp. He was predeceased by a sister: Dorothy (Bickel) Stein, and a brother-in-law: John Markovich.
Services will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street Leesport, PA 19533. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Tilden Twp. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to: American Cancer Society 498 Bellevue Avenue, Reading, PA 19605.
