Harold H.  Geschwindt
Harold H. Geschwindt, 88, of Shoemakersville, died Sunday, June 11, 2017 in Mifflin Center, Cumru Twp. He was the husband of the late Dorothy R. (Reinsel) Geschwindt, died December 1, 1999.
Born in Shoemakersville, he was the son of the late Morris and Katie (Stitzel) Geschwindt. He was a member of St. Luke's Union Church, Shoemakersville. He graduated from Perry High School in 1946. Harold was a US Army Veteran during the Korean War. He worked as a carpenter for Roy Stitzel Contracting right out of high school, then spent a few years working for Bell Telephone, before working as a structural steel draftsman for Reading Metal Craft, and last worked as supervisor of the frame department at Birch Craft Kitchens, Reading last working in 2003. He graduated from Chicago Technical College in Structural Steel Drafting in 1966. Harold was a former member of consistory, Sunday school superintendent, and adult Sunday school teacher at church, Shoemakersville, Virginville, and Goodwill Fire Company. He was the first zoning officer and building inspector for the Borough of Shoemakersville, spent some years playing in the Cressona Band & the Pottsville 3rd Brigade Band. He was a member of local 515 Musicians Union, and was a member of the 427th Army Band while stationed in Germany. He was also a member of Behler Hein Post No. 637 American Legion, Hamburg, and was the first president of the Hamburg Area Band Boosters. Harold enjoyed carpentry, woodworking, and playing the trombone.
Harold is survived by two sons: David H. husband of Dianne (Epting) Geschwindt, Perry Twp., and Richard L. husband of Maureen Geschwindt, Shoemakersville; four grandchildren: Lisa, Ryan, Collin, and Erin; and four great-grandchildren: Trevor, Jacob, Sara, and Katie. He is also survived by two sisters: Mary Jane (Geschwindt) Keim, Wyomissing, and Ruth (Geschwindt) Hasenauer, Elizabethtown. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ray N. and Donald F. Geschwindt.
Services will be held Friday, June 16, 2017 at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street Leesport, PA 19533 with Rev. Walter Breiner officiating.
