Obituary for Daniel L. Decker Sr.

Daniel L. Decker, Sr., 73, of Tulpehocken Twp., and formerly of Jeffersonville, Perkiomen Twp., and Lower Pottsgrove Twp., passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017 in the Laurel Center, Tilden Twp. He was the husband of Johanna L. (Hunsberger) Decker. They were married on January 3, 1964 and celebrated fifty-three years of marriage.
Born in Norristown, he was the son of the late Samuel L. and Catherine V. (Hertzler) Decker. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Daniel worked as a Class A assembler for Philadelphia Gear Corporation; and last worked as a power professional at the Berks Career and Technology Center, Leesport. He enjoyed fishing and was a NASCAR and NHRA fan. In his earlier years, Daniel drove a C altered drag car. He liked to tinker and create his own inventions. As his sons were growing up, Daniel was a Webelos and Cub Scout Leader and an assistant Boy Scout Leader.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children: Daniel L. Decker, Jr., and his fiance Dana M. Anderson, Gilbertsville; Kenneth M. Decker, and his wife Nancy, North Coventry Twp,; and Melissa A. Decker, and her husband Blaine J. Fontana, Gilbertsville; ten grandchildren: Gerald Irwin (Brooke), Ryan Decker (Nadia), Renee Gilbert (David), Cassandra Decker, Danielle Decker, Samantha Decker, Michaela Fontana, James Fontana, Molly Fontana and Blaine Fontana; and five great-grandchildren: David, Gavin, and Evan Gilbert; and Mila and Reagan Decker. Daniel is also survived by one brother: Samuel Decker (Betty), in Florida; and June Tornetta, Jeffersonville.
A celebration of Daniel's life will be held on Saturday at 2:00 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. This will be a time for relatives and friends to share stories and remembrances of Daniel. A visitation with the family will be held in the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.
