Obituary for Stanley S. Strause

Stanley S. Strause, 81, of Mohrsville, passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 in his residence. He was the husband of Joyce C. (Riegel) Strause. They were married on April 23, 1960 and celebrated fifty-seven years of marriage.
Born in Upper Bern Twp., Stanley was the son of the late Stephen S. and Helen (Strause) Strause. He was a 1954 graduate of Hamburg High School and was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard for nine years. Stanley was a member of the Operating Engineers Union for fifty-five years, working most of his life for D.B. Diefenderger. He last worked for J.S. Excavating, Inc., before his retirement. Stanley was a member of Vaux Lodge #406 F. & A.M., Hamburg; Rajah Shrine; Central Berks Fire Company and beneficial association; and Strausstown Gun Club. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association; and the Lucky 13 Hunting Club in Lycoming County. Stanley and Joyce shared many good times going to Florida for twenty years after retirement. He thoroughly enjoyed fishing with the neighbor in Florida. Stanley passed on his love of hunting to his son and grandson and enjoyed the hunting trips they shared. These will be special memories for Tom and Tyler. He hunted in many different states and also in Canada. Stanley enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family and friends. After his retirement, he also enjoyed blacksmithing.
Surviving in addition to his wife Joyce is one son: Thomas R. Strause, and his wife Donna, Penn Twp.; two grandchildren: Ashley and Tyler; two great-grandchildren: Ava and Micah; two sisters: Julia (Strause), widow of Carl Bickel, Windsor Twp.; and Lucille (Strause), wife of Robert Werley, Upper Bern Twp.; and sister-in-law: Marie (Miller) Strause, Perry Twp. Also surviving is brother-in-law: Jay Riegel, Jr., and his wife Sue, Summit Station; sister-in-law: Sandra (Riegel) Dittman, predeceased by companion: Monroe Hoffert, Penn Twp.; sister-in-law: Patricia (Riegel), wife of Dennis Brown, Pine Grove; and several nieces and nephews. Stanley was predeceased by one brother: Harold Strause; and one sister and her husband: Josephine (Strause), and Donald Metz.
Services will be private and the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607.
