Obituary for Leo F. Lenick

Dr. Leo F. Lenick, 75, of Perry Twp., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 9, 2017 in his residence. He was the husband of Mary Ann (Anderson) Lenick. They were married on June 30, 1978 and celebrated thirty-nine years of marriage.
Born in Mary D, Schuylkill Co., he was the son of the late John and Anna (Popnick) Lenick. Leo was a 1960 graduate of Marian High School where he was class president for four years and involved in various athletic programs. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Theology from St. Charles College, his Master’s Degree in Administration from Lehigh University and his Doctorate from the University of South Dakota. Leo was a teacher at Bethlehem Catholic High School and Cardinal Brennan High School and then became Superintendant of schools in Wood, South Dakota from 1980-1985. In 1982, he led the football team to the South Dakota State Championship. He was the Principal at Hamburg Area High School from 1985 until his retirement in 2002. After his retirement, Leo enjoyed spending weekends in the Poconos and winters in Bradenton, Florida. He was a member of St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church in Thornhurst, PA. Leo was a Minister of Theology and a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mark’s.
Leo was a member of various educational associations: NASSP, AASA, NEA and PASA. He was an avid Eagles and Phillies fan.
Surviving in addition to his wife is one brother: William Lenick and his wife Rhea, York; and several nieces and nephews. Leo was predeceased by six brothers.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 11:00 am from St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 94 Walnut Road, Hamburg, PA 19526. A visitation with the family will be held on Saturday at the church 9:00 to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hope Rescue Mission, 645 N. 6th Street, Reading, PA 19601 or Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1959, Atlanta, GA 30301, please write on checks “Hurricane 2017”.
