Obituary for John A. Petinko

John A.  Petinko
John A. Petinko, 72, of Leesport, passed away in his residence on Tuesday, September 19, 2017. He was the husband of June D. (Shellhammer) Petinko. They were married on June 17, 1967 and celebrated fifty years of marriage.
Born in West Reading, he was the son of the late John Petinko and Kathryn (Lengel) Petinko Blankenbiller. John was raised by his grandparents: the late Charles and Erma (Kilheffner) Lengel. He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of the Vietnam War. John worked for thirty-one years for Dana Corporation, Reading. He was a committee man for United Steelworkers of America, Local 3733. He was a member of the Leesport Fire Company. John enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, hunting, and watching the old black and white Westerns on TV. He looked forward to going to breakfast every morning at the Perry Diner.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children: Dennis J. Petinko, and his wife Debra, Bern Twp.; and Sherry L. (Petinko), wife of Jeffrey Arndt, Centre Twp.; and two grandchildren: Calvin and Cassandra Arndt. John is also survived by his half-siblings: Karl and Keith Blankenbiller, and Karen Blaylock, all of California.
Services will be held on Friday at 10:30 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. Burial will follow in Berks County Memorial Gardens. A visitation with the family will be held on Friday 9:30 to 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to American Cancer Society, 498 Bellevue Avenue, Reading, PA 19605.
