Obituary for Raymond E. Bauder

Raymond E. Bauder
Raymond Edgar Bauder, 85, a Rittenhouse Village Resident of eight months and formerly of Leesport, passed away on October 7, 2017 in St. Joseph Medical Center where he had been a patient since September 26.
Born April 7, 1932, he was the son of the late Raymond and Nina (Wandell) Bauder. He is survived by two nieces: Carol Briggs (Jerry) of Indian Trail, NC; and Bonnie Scott (Jack) of Kent, WA; one nephew: Raymond Bauder (Joanna) of Penn Hills, PA; and a large extended family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters: Amelia Bauder and Kathryn Fink; and two brothers: James and Clarence Bauder.
Ray was proud to be the Valedictorian of the Ontelaunee High School Class of 1951 and graduated from McCann's School of Business in 1959. He also attended Kutztown State Teachers College. Ray served honorably oversees during the Korean War. He was employed by the BCIU as a bus driver for the Schuylkill Valley School District for many years. Ray was employed for twenty-six years from 1956-1980 as a circular knitter for the former Crown Knitting Mill, Mohrsville.
Ray's most enjoyable activity was Scouting, joining his first troop in 1944. He was a former Scout Master and member of Boy Scout Troop 154 for over fifty years. Ray attained Eagle Scout with a Silver Palm in 1951 and enjoyed helping scouts learn and participate in Boy Scout activities.
Physical fitness was an important aspect of Ray's life. He would exercise for two hours daily including cycling, weight lifting and calisthenics. Ray won two Presidential Council of Fitness awards in cycling and weight lifting. Even at the age of 83, he was able to do seventy-five push-ups.
Ray was a lifelong and active member of Salem (Belleman's) Church, Mohrsville, where he was a former officer of council, choir member, and Sunday School teacher and superintendant.
Ray's family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the staffs of Rittenhouse Village and St. Joseph's Medical Center for their kind and compassionate care of Ray. We would also like to thank the many area doctors and clinics for their care over the years and especially to the doctors of ENT Head and Neck and Reading Hospital Speech and Hearing Center for giving Ray the hope of restored hearing. He was so looking forward to a cochlear implant operation scheduled for October 19.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to a scholarship fund being set up in Ray's name at Schuylkill Valley High School, 929 Lake Shore Drive, Leesport, PA 19533, to benefit students in need or to Salem (Belleman's) Church, 3540 Belleman's Church Road, Mohrsville, PA 19541 in Ray's name for a fund that will be set up to fund a specific purpose.
Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. Burial will follow in Fairview (Belleman's) Church, Centre Twp. A viewing will be held in the funeral home on Saturday 10:00 to 11:00 am. For online condolences, please visit,
