Irene M.  Werley (Dietrich)
Irene M. Werley, 92, formerly of Centerport, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016 in the Berks Heim. She was the wife of Norman W. Werley, who died June 1, 1989.
Born in Centerport, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Bessie I. (Phillips) Dietrich. She was a 1941 graduate of Ontelaunee Vocational School and attended Reading Business Institute. Irene first worked for Berks County Trust and then for Diener's Knitting Mill. She later worked for Naftzinger's Funeral Home and Furniture Store in Centerport, writing obituaries and as a bookkeeper. Irene last worked as a secretary for the District Justice office in Leesport. She was a member of St. Michael's Church, Tilden Twp. Irene was a former member of Belleman's Church, Centre Twp., where she was a Sunday School teacher and helped to start the nursery program. As a child, she was a Girl Scout; and helped to start the Camp Fire Girls program in Mohrsville. Irene was a member of the Shoemakersville Senior Citizens; Centerport Flower Club; Blue Mountain Chapter #443 Order of Eastern Star, Hamburg; Central Berks Fire Company and beneficial association; Centerport Grange; Ontelaunee Grange; and Centerport Sunday School. She was a founding member of the Centerport Band, where she played clarinet and piccolo. Irene was always busy and spent a lot of her time volunteering. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Irene is survived by her five children: Michael W. Werley, husband of Barbara L. (Trombley) Werley, Bern Twp.; Terrence C. Werley, husband of Deborah P. (Dunkelberger) Werley, Mohrsville; Thomas N. Werley, husband of Carol M. (Huber) Werley, Dauberville; Leta B. (Werley), wife of William P. Doganes, Leesport; and Kathleen A. (Werley), wife of Harry T. Wong, Centre Twp. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Erika (Werley) Homan, Yvonne (Werley) Good, Kristin (Werley) Scheffler, Eric Werley, Kyle Werley, Tanya (Werley) Consugar, Dana (Doganes) Heins, Niki (Doganes) Zarefoss, Bethany (Wong) Weidman and Breanna (Wong) Stuppy; twenty great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Lorraine P. (Dietrich) Seaman, Dauberville; and Vivian L. (Dietrich) Burnish, Centerport. Irene was predeceased by a brother: Edgar L. Dietrich, who was killed in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II; as well as three infant siblings.
Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. Burial will follow in Fairview (Belleman's) Cemetery, Centre Twp. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Thursday 7:00 to 9:00 pm and Friday 10:00 to 11:00 am. Order of Eastern Star service will be held during the viewing on Thursday at 8:00 pm.
