Annabelle W.  Diffenbaugh (Wise)
Annabelle W. Diffenbaugh, 97, of Red Lion, passed away Friday, July 7, 2017 in Pleasant Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, York. She was the wife of Murld E. Diffenbaugh, died November 27, 1980.
Born on her family farm, November 12, 1919 in Windsor Twp., York Co., she was the daughter of the late William H. and Blanche Belle (Bisker) Wise. She graduated from Red Lion High School in 1938. Annabelle lived in Hamburg, Berks Co., for 22 years prior to moving back to her family farm. She worked as a sales clerk for Lucille Dress Shop in the York County Shopping Center for 27 years, retiring in 1993, and later worked part time at Perrydell Farm Store, Leader Heights. Annabelle was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Red Lion. Annabelle was a Past Noble Grand of the former Clementine Rebekah Lodge No. 571, Hamburg, and a current member of Lady Colfax Rebekah Lodge No. 182, Leesport. She was a member of The Red Lion Historical Society, and Union Fire Co. No. 1 & Beneficial Association, Hamburg. She loved knitting, and making quilts for annual family reunions. She always enjoyed attending the monthly Joker’s Club at church, and knitting prayer shawls.
Annabelle is survived by one brother: Clark E., husband of Bonnie D. (Wentz) Wise, York; one sister: W. Leona (Wise), widow of Clair D. Stump, York; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by brothers: Myrle, Glenn, and W. Leon Wise; and sisters: Erma (Wise) Latterman, Nora (Wise) Uffelman, and Kathryn (Wise) Brenneman.
Services will be held Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 11:00 am from St. John’s United Church of Christ, 161 N. Main Street, Red Lion, PA 17356. Burial will follow in Red Lion Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the church. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:00 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg, PA. Lady Colfax Rebekah Lodge service will be held at 7:00 pm in the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be sent to: St. John’s United Church of Christ at the above address.
